Datalight to Share Power Interruption Testing Expertise at ESE Kongress

Datalight will share its embedded software expertise with attendees by presenting a technical session.

BOTHELL, Wash., – August 30, 2017 – Datalight Inc., the leading developer of power fail-safe file systems and flash memory drivers for embedded devices has been invited to present a session at Embedded Software Engineering Kongress 2017 that will train engineers in techniques to help reduce warranty costs. Technical Product Manager Thom Denholm, a frequent presenter at industry conferences, will share methods for testing reliability at the conference, held December 4-8, 2017 in Sindelfingen, Germany.

The session, titled “Effective Power Interruption Testing – How Best to Fail,” will be presented on December 7, at 15:30. The topic should be of particular interest to embedded developers building devices that depend on data to perform their central functions, such as factory controls, autonomous vehicles, and smart meters. With the amount of data being collected, processed and stored on embedded devices continually increasing, data fidelity has become a vital concern. Protecting data from corruption due to power loss is an even greater concern for ruggedized devices that operate in challenging industries, such as automotive, military/aerospace and energy.

The session will discuss shortcomings device manufacturers have encountered in their testing that led to significant downtime, product returns and customer dissatisfaction. Mr. Denholm will provide techniques to improve one’s testing structure and explore how many common reliability tests do not accurately simulate the environment or processes the device will encounter in the field. Only by accounting for real-world failures can a test help determine if a device will truly protect data in the field.

“I look forward to sharing testing techniques Datalight has uncovered over the 30 years we have been creating embedded software,” Denholm said. “It’s rewarding to impart our expertise to a technical audience that can put it to use right away in industry-leading devices.”

ESE Kongress is the only German-language convention that focuses exclusively and extensively on issues and challenges in the development of device and system software for a variety of industries, such as industrial, automotive, test/measurement systems, telecommunications, consumer electronics and medical. The conference is expected to draw more than 1,100 attendees and will feature around 100 presentations covering the topics and trends that are a challenge to embedded software developers today and in future.
